Job Description

Our client is a well-known Global Consumer Audio company. They are seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering, location is east coast. Position is an onsite role.

Join their dynamic North American engineering team and play a leadership role in developing world-class products for iconic brands (to be disclosed if candidate is a match). Immerse yourself in a passion for audio while collaborating globally to design and develop cutting-edge electronic systems for portable speakers, sound bars, and home theater speaker products.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering in North America, you will lead a group of Electrical Engineers, DSP engineers, and Technicians with an emphasis on consumer product design, including design to print mixed signal electronic systems, DSP development for products, and all aspects of audio, video electronic hardware design and product development. The position will manage the Electrical Engineering staff consisting of 4-8 personnel including Engineers and Technicians located in the US and overseas. The position will play a key role in developing our Electronics technologies, developing our people’s knowledge, and managing hardware product development.

Specific Duties Include

  • Responsible for the deployment of Electrical and DSP engineering resources and their deliverables to achieve department improvement objectives, support existing products, and support new product development.
  • Responsible for development, improvement, training, and implementation of processes and procedures that ensure the efficient use of department resources; supports the Milestone product development process; and insure the quality and reliability of our products.
  • Be a technical liaison to other internal engineering groups, external companies and technology providers for the employment of their respective capabilities into our products. Will implement appropriate procedures to comply with the technology partners requirements as needed.
  • Audio Electronics Knowledge: Expertise in analog and digital audio, encompassing signals, formats, and system design.
  • Cross-Functional Development: Collaborate seamlessly in cross-functional teams, assessing design impacts on electrical, mechanical, and acoustical systems.
  • Conceptual Design Phase: Actively participate in new product design and development programs, contributing to product architecture.
  • System Requirements Analysis: Evaluate electronics system requirements, determining development costs and project feasibility.
  • Embedded Systems: Exhibit proficiency with MCUs and SoCs in highly integrated mixed signal systems.
  • Audio and Video Interfaces: Familiarity with HDMI, CEC, Optical, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and analog interfaces.
  • Bonus: Experience with debug and development on multiple interfaces.
  • Engineering Development: Interface with hardware, software, and firmware for seamless integration to meet product requirements.
  • Technical Documentation: Draft, layout, and specify critical devices, components, and equipment
  • Experience with Altium Designer is a plus.
  • Decision Making: Analyze information to make decisions and solve problems effectively.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with supervisors, peers, subordinates, and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Audio Technology, Physics, or a related STEM field. (If you’ve taken a different path to meet the qualifications, we look forward to hearing your story.)
  • Experience: 10-15+ years of related industry experience or equivalent with a compelling story.
  • Professional Certifications: Certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Electrical Professional (CEP), or others relevant to the industry can demonstrate a candidate's commitment to professional development.
  • Experience With the following: Altium, Audio Precision Analyzers, Electro Acoustic Test and Measurement
  • Software Development: knowledgeable about software architecture or coding for embedded systems and applications.
